Transportle

Transportle™ & Two Sizes of Neonatal Kits

Infants requiring transports can be subjected to experiences that can seriously impact their physiology in negative ways. It is important to look at these factors and, using current research, try to offer them an experience where their safety and outcomes are protected.

Very immature and very sick-term/post-term infants are particularly likely to be affected negatively by a transport, whether by ambulance, helicopter, or fixed wing.

Solutions for Medical Staff

Below is a table highlighting some of the more common transport concerns for medical staff.

Age Medical Problems Solution Required Current Solutions
<32 Weeks
IVH Neutral position
Prevent changes in blood pressure and blood flow to brain
Reduce toxic environmental stimulation
Decreased handling
Head set rolls align and stabilize head position in neutral
15 degree wedge helps prevent head from being placed in Trendelenburg position
Earmuffs reduce sound by 25db — Mattress design reduces vibration
Womba Pod design allows transfers to be made without physically lifting infant
<32 Weeks Respiratory Distress Syndrome Helped by stable respiratory attachments — nasal CPAP, all nasal cannulas, as necessary
Reduced accidental extubation
Secure respiratory attachment to Midliner
Less ability to move head and dislodge ETT
<32 Weeks Cold Stress Heat source directed under and over patient Conduits through Womba Pod mattress help avoid this problem
37-42 Weeks PPHN with Respiratory Distress Minimal environmental stimulation and very stable respiratory device support Decreased chance of accidental extubation with large head set rolls
Decreased toxic stimulation provided by earmuffs, eyeshades, mattress, and pod design
37-42 Weeks Midline Defects Often need to travel in side-lying position Patients can be secured in side-lying, prone, or supine midline position, as needed

Transportle™ — Docking Station

SKU: 731-0402

Is a spacer which fits into IBI transport incubator tray.

Has a central opening that fits a Womba Pod. (Pictured below Docking Station to the right.)

Blue, health-grade fabric covers PU foam interior material.

Anchor strap secures Womba Pod to Docking Station.

Coroplast plastic base gives stabilization to the Docking Station.

Transportle™ — Womba Pod

SKU: 731-0403

Is a removable "patient pod" with securement straps.

Has bilateral anchor straps which secure and stabilize patient head within head set.

Pod cover material — made with health-grade materials combined with cotton.

Lateral Webbing Strips are provided for patient securement to Pod.

Mattress foam has multiple conduits for dampening vibration and allowing heat transfer from under tray heater. Warm the back of patients as needed.

Coroplast plastic provides support inside mattress and is removable and reusable under Pod once in the NICU.

Pod allows for lower resolution X-rays in the field. Higher resolution X-rays can be performed in NICU, if Coroplast is removed.

Multiple Velcro respiratory attachment pieces are located on the side of Pod (head end).

Pod fits on or into a warmer mattress, if insert is removed and stored.

Head area of Pod can be elevated by the use of 15 degree foam wedge provided.

How to Use the Transportle™

Transportle™ — Small Baby Accessory Kit

SKU: 731-0404

For babies <1,500g or <32 weeks gestation.

Head Set

Positioner for baby’s head in midline while wearing Earmuffs.

Attaches nCPAP devices — midline or goalpost styles.

Attaches all cannula styles — no tape needed.

Allows lateral and superior securement of patient's head to Womba Pod.

Eyeshades, Toploader (nCPAP attachment piece), and Earmuffs  included in Kit.

Body Support Rolls

Two rolls designed to enhance fetal flexion are included.

Materials — cotton and two breathable, specialty fabric covers PU foam rolls.

Use foam-coated material surface towards baby — very soft for micro-preemie skin.

Tested for safety against causing dermal abrasions.

Support rolls can be reused and laundered (hand wash, air dry) after transport in the NICU.

Foot Roll

Material cover is 95% cotton and 5% spandex. Roll is foam. Velcro attachments allow securement to the support rolls bilaterally.

15 Degree Wedge

Memory foam roll.

Provides a desirable 15 degree elevation under Pod. Can be used under Pod whenever needed.

During fixed wing flight takeoffs/landings, patient can be subjected to as much as a 10 degree head-down position. This could result in sudden blood flow changes within the brain. Use of 15 degree wedge will protect from this.

Transportle™ — Big Baby Accessory Kit

SKU: 731-0405

Additional Transportle™ Information

All infants can remain for a period of time on the pod after arrival at the tertiary care NICU. (Up to 3 days.)

Best practice is to slide linens under patient to keep the pod free of soil.

Radiant warmer mattresses are available with inserts to accommodate Transportle™ pods.

To reduce handling and provide good repositioning, switch Transportle™ headset shortly after arrival to either a Tortle Midliner or Midliner MAX, dependent upon patient size.

Multiple attachments for respiratory device attachment are provided.

Warmer Mattress

Available to fit most NICU Radiant Warmers.

Health-grade material covers over PU foam.

Reusable and can be cleansed between patients following NICU guidelines for other Radiant Warmer mattresses.

Used with insert for any NICU patient admissions. When admitting "pod baby" following transport, remove insert and store. Pod and patient can then be placed into the mattress, reducing handling.

Improves efficiency of transport team sign-out to NICU staff.
